My Bible Journey: Genesis

UPDATED:  Almost done with Genesis.  Stopped after Esau and Jacob and Rebekah.  Pretty interesting map being drawn in and around the middle east!  I’m also surprised at how many times God was mad (?).  I don’t remember that, except for the flood and banishing A&E from the Garden of Eden.  I feel like I’m reading a history book.
ORIGINAL POST
I’m going to document my Bible journey.  Although I’ve been raised a Roman Catholic, I’ve never EVER read the entire bible.  I’m beginning from the Old Testament and I already have some questions and I’m turning to family to help me get through some answers (mom, SIL, friends…just no fakes please and no one who will try to convert me one way or the other).  Feel free to voice your thoughts if you wish. I hope my journey will be one of enlightenment as I go in with a completely curious mind.

My SIL,  ~ who HAS gone through the Bible   (her dad was a minister, remember) has offered me outlines to help me sort through. (Thanks, K!). Notice all the tabs I placed on my book?  I didn’t count how many there were but there were a lot of names I never heard of.  And I had religious instructions daily?!!  Go figure!  I feel like I was born in the Dark Ages…but I see some light and therefore, hope for me.

January (28 of 1)

Lesson 1) In the beginning…Genesis 1-11

Creation Stories (there are 2): Genesis 1-2
Adam & Eve and the Fall: Genesis 3
Cain & Abel (and then Seth): Genesis 4
“Begats”: Genesis 5 and 10
Noah and the ark: Genesis 6-9
Tower of Babel: Genesis 11

Lesson 2) Abraham & Sarah…Genesis 12-25

Lesson 3) Isaac, Jacob & Esau…Genesis 25-36

Lesson 4) Joseph…Genesis 37-50

Lesson 5) Moses…Exodus-Leviticus

I have decided to start from the very beginning, in Genesis.  And even this early, I’m stuck.  Wondering how come I never knew that Adam and Eve had a third child named Seth.  And where did the people that Cain and Abel married come from if Adam and Eve were the first people created?

My quest continues.  Each day, a different journey. I’m going to make it through the WHOLE book.
